An Alabama 14-year-old who had a ‘hit list’ of members of his family he wanted to kill has been arrested after he confessed to shooting dead his 17-year-old brother.
The incident took place in the Pike County town of Banks on October 3. Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home after the father discovered the teen’s body.
The boy, 17, had been missing since Monday but had not yet reported it to law enforcement.
While interviewing the 14-year-old, who has not been named, he confessed to the murder and according to Sheriff Russell Thomas, he told classmates he wasn’t yet done.
‘He stated his brother got up and staggered out of the residence and out the back door, where he then fell at the bottom of the steps,’ the sheriff said. ‘He dragged him about 60 yards to the back of the property.’

‘He then asked his friend to help him murder the rest of his family and help him bury their bodies,’ Russell said in a statement.
‘The friend also stated the 14-year-old had a hit list in his bookbag of family members he wanted to kill and made statements about wanting to shoot up the school.’
Their father eventually discovered the body after he’d been called to pick up the boy from school, claiming that he was upset about his missing brother.
On Wednesday, police discovered the existence of the hit list in the boy’s backpack at his home and even made statements in class that he was going to shoot up the local high school, according to WSFA.
The sheriff’s office also found out the boy had made what they termed ‘disturbing’ and ‘threatening’ statements at the school on the day of the murder.
The local school system believes there’s no evidence of a threat, but has asked for an increased law enforcement presence on campus.
District Attorney James Tarbox has charged the 14-year-old with murder as a juvenile. He is currently being held in a juvenile prison, News 3 reported.
‘We are very fortunate and blessed we do not have more casualties as a result of a 14-year-old having access to a weapon,’ Thomas said.

However, there is a hearing scheduled to be held next week where a circuit judge may certify him as an adult. If so, the county will release his identity.
‘The Pike County School System would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends impacted by this tragic event,’ Superintendent Mark Bazzell said in a statement.
The school is planning to have mental health counselors on campus for the near future.
