Tickets for Bronny James’ NBA G League debut are selling on resale platforms for 12 times their usual price, it has been revealed.
James was drafted by the Lakers to play alongside his dad LeBron in the NBA, but will be sent down for a stint in the G League after just four appearances.
As you would expect, there has been a huge rush to secure a ticket for his first game with the Lakers affiliate on Saturday night, despite official tickets being sold out.
Bronny’s debut for the South Bay Lakers comes against the Salt Lake City Stars in El Segundo on Saturday night, and tickets are currently on the secondary market for $200 each.
Per Joe Pompliano, the average price for an NBA G League game is just $17.
Bronny James’ debut in the G League is currently the most expensive ticket of the weekend
The news of the huge bump in price has left some fans fuming, as those who already had tickets try to cash in on the surprise appearance of Bronny with the team.
Incredibly, tickets to see the actual Lakers play at the Crypto.com Arena, with Bronny’s dad LeBron in the team, are going for significantly less cash, with prices for Sunday’s game against the Raptors starting at $101 on SeatGeek.
On Wednesday night, the Memphis Grizzlies game is just $84 a ticket.
Taking to social media, one frustrated fan wrote: ‘The Lakers only sent Bronny to South Bay to sell them tickets.’
Another added: ‘The Bronny effect is crazy,’ while one called it a ‘highway robbery’.
It was also claimed that tickets to see Bronny with South Bay on Saturday are the most expensive of any basketball game in America this weekend – including all NBA fixtures.
‘The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one,’ Lakers coach JJ Redick said last month. ‘[General manager] Rob [Pelinka] and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that.’
Bronny played alongside his father, LeBron James, multiple times in his four NBA appearances
In the season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo in NBA history to play in a game together.
Bronny has played in four games so far in his NBA career – including Wednesday night’s 131-144 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
He scored his first points on October 30 in a 134-110 loss to his father’s first team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
His totals through the start of his NBA career are four points, one rebound, two assists, and a steal across just 13 minutes of game time.
Bronny was selected by the Lakers with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft after spending one season playing college basketball at USC.
