Young Australians have been swept up in a ‘bizarre’ new beauty trend that sees them using temporary hair colour spray in a shocking manner.
Makeup enthusiasts have come up with dozens of ways to hop aboard the faux freckles trend – and the latest involves a light splash of instant root concealer spray meant for hair on their cheeks and nose.
Popular makeup artist and TikTok star Sydney Morgan recently went viral for cutting a heart-shaped stencil out of printer paper and using it as a guide to spritz coloured hairspray on.
‘I think the heart shape works because natural freckles are concentrated in this area,’ she said, pointing around her nose and inner forehead.
Sydney then peeled away the piece of paper to reveal the fruit of her labour.

The spray-on freckles originally left a harsh line over her forehead where the paper ended, but Sydney simply used a foundation brush to seamlessly blend it away.
‘Wait, why does that look so natural?’ she asked after revealing the light brown spots on her face.
The makeup artist gave the hack an eight out of ten – and claimed that she would recommend others try it as well.
Several Australian TikTokers tried the trend for themselves as well, hoping to mimic Sydney’s success.
Chloe Dillon uploaded a video of her bungled DIY freckles that served as a humorous cautionary tale.
She first sprayed the product on a tissue and on her hand before closing her eyes and blindly applying it on her face, creating a large brown blur across her eyes, nose, cheeks and forehead.

The young mum wiped it off and tried a second and third time to no avail.
‘This was the funniest thing I have seen,’ one of her fans commented.
‘The first try looks like when something blows up in someone’s face in a cartoon,’ a second joked.
‘Okay but like on the last try it was kind of good, just clean up around your eyes and put some setting powder and blush and stuff!’ a third suggested.

‘Safe to say this is not for me. I will not be trying this ever again.’

‘I know you have been seeing this all over your TikTok so naturally I have to try it,’ the Aussie who lives in Denmark said.
She applied a light spray of the hair colour to her nose and cheeks with the speckles creating a sun-kissed look.
‘The camera does not do this justice. It looks so natural – this is a one hundred out of ten for me,’ she said.
