International makeup mogul Huda Kattan has revealed the biggest trends of 2023, a craze she hates, and the ‘unconventional’ hack she uses every day.
The Huda Beauty founder, who has built a $1.2billion cosmetics empire after starting a makeup blog in 2010, told FEMAIL that when it comes to holiday makeup – tried and tested methods are her go-to.
‘Always add some more shimmer,’ she advised. ‘The holiday season is full of lights and colors; I love it. Shimmers and glitters open the eye and give a ‘foiled’ lid effect – always a showstopper.
‘If you’re not a fan of heavier eye makeup, opt for berry lips with a subtle wing! Remember to prep your skin properly to ensure your complexion products sit well and last longer.’
Red lips for the holidays is a timeless pick – and everyone can find the ‘perfect’ shade that matches their hair and skin tone.

The makeup guru ‘hates’ when people try to push 20-step makeup routines for everyday wear because it isn’t feasible – and often unnecessary.
‘I’m on the go most of the time and that’s why I create innovative products that are easy to use but deliver the results I want,’ she said, referencing her Faux Filter concealer that can also be used as foundation and eye primer in a pinch.
Concealer, setting powder, and mascara are also the three products even someone who is ‘bad’ at makeup should learn how to use, because a little bit goes a long way.
‘Dramatic lashes are a must-have for the holidays,’ Ms Kattan said.
The makeup star is ‘obsessed’ with the different styles of contouring that were invented in 2023 – and always enjoys new ways to sculpt her face.
‘My current favourite trend is speed contouring,’ she revealed. ‘I use a light-pressed powder to highlight different areas of the face, like the undereye, cheekbones, and jawline.’
Her ‘unconventional’ makeup hack is setting her lip products with powder for a ‘matte’ look – and the tip works wonders to make sure your lipstick stays on through several courses of holiday food and under-the-mistletoe kisses.

Ms Kattan shared that her secret to glowing glass skin was making sure she massages her face every day.
‘Facial massage has so many benefits, like relieving muscle tension, helping with lymphatic drainage, and leaving your skin with a glow!
‘I’m obsessed with self-care, so incorporating ritualistic things like massage into my routine helps me unwind, and I know I’m indulging in something good for me.’
She added, ‘I love Radio Frequency! I have noticed such a difference in my face since I started using it.’
The electromagnetic device generates heat to stimulate the production of collagne, elastin, and new skin cells, working to give users a non-surgical facelift.
Ms Kattan swears by the TriPollar ($470) and Panasonic ($599) Radio Frequency at-home devices.
Those on a budget can use gua sha or crystal facial rollers for a similar effect – the former being an ancient practice with proven benefits of toning the face.

Her famous glowing skin is also achieved via some of her must-have skincare products.
Ms Kattan added, ‘I also can’t be without some of our Wishful products. I’m obsessed with our Yo Glow AHA, BHA Enzyme Scrub, and our Honey Whip Peptide Moisturizer – they have kept my skin hydrated and soft with a healthy glow.
‘Lastly, the CosRx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. I love a good essence, and this one leaves my skin plump and glowy.’

‘I really can’t live without it,’ she added.
Ms Kattan also shared that the end of December is the one time of year she lets herself indulge in all her favourite comfort foods – from chicken nuggets and creamy pasta to decadent chocolate pastries and Middle Eastern sweets.
‘I love the festive spirit, the holidays are perfect for disconnecting and spending time with family. Comfort food is essential, especially when I’m feeling cosy!’ she told FEMAIL.
