- Lockyer and his wife are raising four children
- Huge profit on the sale of their former property
Darren Lockyer famously made the switch from fullback to five-eighth in his stellar NRL career, and now he been able to switch to one of Brisbane’s most sought-after suburbs after a $6million property windfall.
The Brisbane Broncos, Maroons and Kangaroos great has secured a majestic six-bedroom Queenslander in the posh suburb of New Farm just weeks after selling his previous home for almost six times what he paid for it.
Lockyer is one of the most famous faces to ever grace the Broncos training base at Red Hill and home ground of Suncorp Stadium – Lang Park to the locals – and bought his previous family home in the nearby suburb of Paddington.
Lockyer and his wife Loren paid $1.125m for the property in 2012 and sold it for around $6.5million this year.
‘The buyer and seller are both very happy,’ director of Wakely Properties Ben Wakely said at the time.
‘I knew through my own process of looking for a similar property that there’s not many around and there are a number of people looking for homes that are completed and on larger blocks.
‘Even though [the home’s] got a bit more age on it, it would cost a lot more to replace it.’
Now the Hall of Fame inductee has been able to splash out on a $5million luxury property in New Farm, beside the Brisbane River, where he’ll continue to raise his four children.

New Farm is one of Brisbane’s most boutique suburbs, with a median house price of $2.6million and unit price of $815,000, reflecting significant growth over recent years.
The area is highly sought after for its vibrant lifestyle and proximity to the city, attracting professionals and affluent residents.
Properties in New Farm range from historic Queenslanders to modern apartments, offering diverse living options.
The Lockyers have snapped up on the most desirable properties in the suburb, fusing the best elements of the historic Queenslander that was originally built in 1920 with modern conveniences and entertaining spaces.
The New Farm property opens right up to allow for fresh air and sunlight in most rooms, including the downstairs living area overlooking the pool
While the property is a classic 1920s Queensland, it features plenty of mod cons including this luxury kitchen
The Lockyer’s were able to purchase their New Farm dream home and still have around 1.5million in reserve from the sale of their old property
The property had been listed by Place New Farm agents Aaron Woolard and Flyn Park in May and billed as ‘one of Brisbane’s finest residences’.
The home is nestled between two parks and also features a resort-style pool and pool house.
It also features numerous open-plan living spaces and a sprawling deck to capture the afternoon breezes overlooking the pool.
Plus its location puts the Lockyer’s within walking distance of the New Farm and Sydney St ferry terminals, New Farm park and a host of boutique cafes and restaurants.
And he will have around $1.5million left in change from the sale of their Paddington property, which he will reportedly re-invest into his commercial ventures.
