Rachel Zegler furiously defended Taylor Swift and other celebrities against trolls on social media.
The West Side Story actress, 23 – who recently slammed Hollywood while voicing fears of being ‘replaced by AI’ – discussed Swift, 34, during an interview with Teen Vogue published on Tuesday while on the topic of ‘fan boundaries.’
While joined by fellow actor, Kit Connor, Zegler – who garnered backlash for saying she ‘hated’ the original 1937 Snow White animation – revealed that she no longer uses X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘But I’m off Twitter. F*** Twitter. It can be a nasty place. I saw what it did to [Kit]. I know what it did to me.’
Rachel added, ‘I’ve seen women in particular be torn down my entire life. Jameela Jamil, why? Taylor Swift, why? Jennifer Lawrence, why? Anne Hathaway, why? Halle Bailey, why?’

‘And I know why, but the general public will never learn… now they’ve moved on to Chappell [Roan]. F*** them.’
The Good Luck, Babe songstress – who goes by Chappell Roan – recently was slammed by fans for ‘not endorsing’ Kamala Harris.
Both Rachel and Kit further reflected on social media, with Connor stating, ‘None of it’s real. No one knows anything based [off of] social media.’
He also added, ‘Genuinely, it’s one of those things that makes me really upset. It makes me really angry because I don’t like people talking about things they don’t know.’
Zegler agreed and brought up the Bad Blood songstress once again: ‘”Why is Taylor Swift XYZ?” You don’t know her. It’s so [wild] that you’re talking like that, because you don’t know her.’
‘I don’t know her, and that’s why I’m not on the internet going, “But actually, I think that she’s actually conniving in this and her relationship isn’t real.”‘
The actress expressed, ‘You don’t know this person. Spend your time learning a craft. Touch some grass. Kiss a girl, do something.’
Elsewhere in the Teen Vogue interview, Rachel continued to open up about fame and ‘fan boundaries.’

She admitted, ‘I feel like you become stripped of your humanity a bit because you are seen as a product or an object of people’s affection, hatred, obsession’ – which can have ‘good sides and some bad sides.’
‘I’ve mostly seen the bad of it. I’ve been doxxed. I’ve had people outside my apartment.’
Zegler added, ‘I’ve had people protesting my existence and the color of my skin. I don’t f*** with it anymore. I really don’t.’
Rachel recalled how her career began on YouTube and connecting with fans, but said, ‘there is a real downside.’
‘People can say it’s a double-edged sword, but I think there’s mostly negative aspects of it than there are positives.’
The actress later explained, ‘I made a vow to myself after last summer where everything was really horrible for me online, that I would not spend a single second being uncomfortable that I didn’t have to…’
‘I wish I had the wherewithal to say it the way Chappell did. I think she’s brilliant. I think the people who are mad at her are idiots who simply don’t know what it’s like to not have an ounce of privacy anymore.’
Last year, Rachel notably received public backlash after she slammed the original 1937 Snow White film.

She was cast as Snow White in the upcoming, Disney live-action remake which is set to hit theaters next year on March 21, 2025.
In one interview, Zegler had revealed that the new film would be going in a different direction and said of the character of Snow White: ‘She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.’
The star also faced backlash when she was first cast as Snow White as a Latina actress.
In response to the negative reception, Rachel penned in a since-deleted post: ‘yes i am snow white no i am not bleaching my skin for the role (sic).’
And in May, Rachel reflected on having a ‘hard year’ while celebrating her 23rd birthday – after she was slammed as ‘woke’ for ‘hating’ the original Disney film.
‘The door is shutting on 22 right now, and wow! What a hard year! If you’ve been online to any degree, you probably know why,’ she expressed.
Rachel shared that she hoped ’23 holds a lot less hatred’ as well as ‘less being afraid for my safety in public, and a lot more understanding for growing up.’
During a recent interview with Variety earlier this month, she also opened up about fame and Hollywood, telling the outlet that ‘being famous isn’t for the faint of heart.’

‘The reason I fell in love with this industry is not because of this town,’ The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes star said of L.A.
‘In fact, I kind of can’t stand this town. I don’t like that there’s a town built around the industry that I work in; it’s stifling and isolating and weird. In New York, nobody gives a f***.’
While reflecting on the racist comments made on social media about her casting as Snow White, Zegler insisted that she doesn’t even try to wrap her head why ‘Disney adults’ would have a problem with someone Latina portraying the beloved princess.
Zegler proceeded to reveal that the line describing her character’s ‘skin as white as snow’ will reference ‘another version of Snow White that was told in history,’ in which the character ‘survived a snowstorm that occurred when she was a baby.’
‘The king and queen decided to name her Snow White to remind her of her resilience,’ the Hackensack native noted. ‘One of the core points in our film for any young woman or young person is remembering how strong you actually are.’
The star also admitted that it was ‘sad’ to see so many people rip her apart for teasing that her version of Snow White would not not be saved by a prince.
‘In all honesty, it made me sad that it was taken in such a way, because I believe that women can do anything.’
She added, ‘But I also believe that they can do everything,’ she explained. ‘It can be very upsetting when things get taken out of context or jokes don’t land.’
During a recent interview with Variety earlier this month, she also opened up about fame and Hollywood, telling the outlet that ‘being famous isn’t for the faint of heart’; seen in September in NYC
Zegler went on to make it clear that the ‘love story is very integral’ and that it wasn’t true that her remake wouldn’t feature any romance.
‘I’ve watched women get torn down my whole life, my whole career,’ she said. ‘We’ll watch it in the election that’s upcoming. We’re gonna witness that for a long time, I fear. Sometimes it can feel like we’re going back; it certainly felt that way when that was happening.’
Although she is tempted to leave social media, at times, she confessed that she doesn’t like to give trolls the ‘satisfaction of knowing they hurt me in the moment.’
‘You give them a lot of power by taking a social media break,’ she pointed out.
Over the years, she has used her platforms to champion causes that are important to her.
Last year during the SAG-AFTRA strike, she spoke about the possible dangers of AI as she recalled having like ‘465 photos taken of every corner’ of her body for CG stunts.
Rachel has most recently made her Broadway debut with Kit Connor as the iconic role of Juliet in the adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.
