Australian supermarket shoppers are conflicted over the release of the brand new limited edition Woolworths mud cake – with many slamming the controversial flavour.
Woolworths recently released a pumpkin spice mud cake ($7) ahead of Halloween that combines the flavours of cinnamon and nutmeg and is topped with a chocolate ganache and pecan cookie crumble.
Aussie shoppers believe the treat is an autumnal special and shouldn’t be sold in stores just as the country is going into summer.
‘Makes no sense for Australia at this time of year,’ one said.
‘Pumpkin spice is autumnal and it’s spring here,’ another echoed.
‘This is just wrong,’ a man wrote. ‘I’m so confused about them releasing this in spring.’
Another added, ‘I love a pumpkin spice latte but this didn’t taste like it. It tasted like carrot cake.’
But Melbourne-based food reviewer Nick Vavitis rated the special edition cake a ’14 out of 10′ and said it was a must-try.

‘It smells unreal – the cake tastes exactly like a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte,’ Nick raved in a video.
‘You have to really like pumpkin, and I love this,’ he said.
‘It’s not too heavy on the nutmeg, it has got a nice cinnamon taste to it and it’s very sweet. I also really like the sweet pumpkin spice frosting on the top.’
Hundreds of others couldn’t wait to get their hands on the limited edition cake.
‘I went to three different Woolworths stores but none of them had it,’ one lamented.
‘I can’t wait to try this, it looks delicious,’ another said.
