While Netflix‘s Starting 5 docuseries featuring LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, and Domantas Sabonis had fans buzzing after one episode, social media users agreed on one common flaw to the show.
On Wednesday, Netflix premiered the series, which followed the five stars throughout the 2023-24 NBA season.
While the show has been mostly well-received, fans were not as fond of the scenes involving Sabonis. Users took to social media to clown the Sacramento Kings center’s involvement in the series.
‘I need Domantas to start talking shit like his dad,’ one user said, comparing the mild-mannered son to his brash father, Arvydas, who played in the NBA during the late 1990s and early 2000s. ‘Someone give him a cigarette already.’
‘He don’t belong with these names lmao,’ another said.

Fans complained about Domantas Sabonis’ scenes in the docuseries being ‘boring’
‘Sabonis aint that bad!!! His wife is f***ing annoying tho lmao,’ said a third.
Sabonis is one of the NBA’s top big men, having led the league in rebounds for the past two seasons.
The Lithuanian center’s glow-up later in his career saw him get an All-Star nod in 2020, 2021 and 2023. He was also named in the All-NBA Third Team in the last two years.
However, fans appeared to fall flat with his non-media-friendly personality. Sabonis’ laid-back personality lacked the entertaining factor brought by his co-stars.
Other reactions included video memes to troll the Sacramento star. One user posted the viral video of Carmelo Anthony pump faking an arena full of people and wrote: ‘Me about to watch ‘Starting 5′ on Netflix than seeing Sabonis on my tv.’
Another user posted a montage of sideline interviews getting skipped while playing NBA 2k. The user wrote: ‘When I’m watching Starting 5 and Sabonis gets on my Screen.’
A third referred to Sabonis’ scenes with a clip of Shannon Sharpe saying: ‘No son, I don’t want that.’
Sabonis started in all 82 games for the Kings last season and averaged 19.4 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. In 2023, Sabonis and the team broke the Kings’ 16-year playoff drought before losing to the Warriors in the opening round.
Sacramento missed the postseason in 2023-24.
