The bombshell news that Lachlan Galvin wants to test his value on the market has rocked the NRL world.
But it appears that some of his team-mates within the Tigers camp are not at all happy about how his contract situation has panned out.
Though there has been speculation that the footy star is after a bigger salary, and while he might be interested in landing a bigger deal elsewhere, the real reason reportedly relates to the Tigers’ coaching structure.
In fact, Michael Chammas, writing in The Sydney Morning Herald, has revealed that the five-eighth doesn’t believe he can reach his full potential at the Concord Oval.
He thinks there is a ceiling at the club and despite playing alongside four-time premiership-winning star Jarome Luai, he feels that the club can’t provide him with what he needs to develop.
Chammas adds that Galvin has ‘no faith in his coach’s ability’.

Footy star Lachlan Galvan is set to test the free agency market later this year with his contract at the Wests Tigers set to expire at the end of 2026

It’s also been revealed that the youngster has told senior coach Benji Marshall that he didn’t necessarily want to leave but was keen to test the market.
Six clubs are reportedly interested in the five-eighth, who made his debut in 2024, one of which includes the Sea Eagles, per Fox Sports, who could be set to lose Daly Cherry-Evans at the end of the 2025 season.
Galvin is understood to have rejected a six-year contract extension – worth a staggering $5.5million – to stay at the footy club. The 19-year-old is contracted until the end of 2026 and can reach a deal with rivals on a move from November 1.
But the shock news appears to have had a ripple effect throughout the West Tigers camp, with Marshall, who won the league title with the Tigers as a player back in 2005, seeking out answers from the young out-half last week.
The footy star had been looking for an exit for some time and the acquisition of Luai and Terrell May have not swayed his mind on the matter. There is also a chance now that he could be pushed back into a role with the reserve grade side with the Tigers potentially able to use Jack Bird or Adam Doueihi in the five-eighth role until Latu Fainu is fully fit to play again.
Now it appears fans and even some team-mates, including Fonua Pole, have lashed back at the 19-year-old online.
A fan account on Instagram called @Wests.Tigers_ slammed Galvin after it was announced that he would be leaving the club.
‘Unf****ingbelievable,’ the account wrote.

It comes as his team-mate Fonua Pole appeared to like an Instagram post slamming Galvin over the move

The Wests Tigers prop, Pole (pictured), has since retracted the Instagram like
‘We give you a shot at first grade and hand you the keys to the franchise with every tool possible around you to succeed. Cya mate. Surely there’s no need to keep him around? Throw Doueihi or Bird at six until Latu returns if we’re serious about building and moving forward as a club.’
Fonua, meanwhile, appeared to share the same feelings on the matter regarding the five-eighth’s decision to jump ship.
He was seen liking the post on Instagram and has since retracted the like.
Chammas, meanwhile, writes: ‘Some Tigers players have grown concerned at a perceived sense of entitlement from Galvin.’
Phil Gould, meanwhile, has branded the speculation that Galvin is not convinced by Marshall’s coaching credentials as ‘extrodinary.’
‘I would’ve thought that would’ve been, if discussed, a private matter between the management and the player,’ Gus told on Nine’s 100% Footy.
‘I find that extraordinary and somewhat untenable if in fact Lachlan Galvin comes out and endorses that statement. I doubt that Lachlan Galvin will to be honest. I doubt that Lachlan Galvin will want to be a party to comments that the current coach can’t improve his football for him.
‘I don’t think that Lachlan Galvin’s a party to that to be honest. He doesn’t strike me as that sort of kid. I think he would at this stage of his career, be in a position to even say that or intimate that. That might have been part of the strategy from the manager to remove him from the club … it’s not good.’
