A Chinese ice cream brand that has been making waves on social media has finally landed at Woolworths – but one popular food reviewer says it’s not worth the hype.
The Dasenlin Fumang ice creams, which retail for $6 each, are known for their hyper-realistic fruit-shaped appearance.
Each flavour is encased in a thin white chocolate shell that mimics the texture and look of real fruit.
TikTok food reviewer Russ Eats didn’t hold back in his brutal assessment.
‘They’re $6 but they’re not very big, so they better be good,’ he said before taking a bite and doling out his verdict.
‘That’s one of the most over-hyped products ever. It is absolute sh*t.’
The mango version is designed to resemble a ripe mango, while the peach and lemon varieties are similarly crafted with striking detail.
The inside consists of a fruit-flavoured ice cream core, promising an ‘elevated’ take on traditional ice cream bars.

Previously, these treats were only available at Asian supermarkets, where they gained a cult following among dessert lovers and influencers.
Now that Woolworths has begun stocking them, many were eager to see if they lived up to the hype.
However, Russ described the mango version as having a ‘soggy’ white chocolate coating with an ice cream centre that lacked vibrancy.
‘It’s not a mango sorbet that has a nice, fruity twang – it’s cheap mango ice cream,’ he said.
He then compared it to a mango Weiss bar, declaring the popular Aussie dessert a far superior choice.
His final rating for the Dasenlin Fumang ice cream was a one out of ten.
But the mango wasn’t the worst offender.
Russ then tried the peach flavour and was even more unimpressed.

‘The peach ice cream is worse. It’s like you’ve tipped a peach Suntory over cheap vanilla ice cream. That’s a half out of ten,’ he said.
Finally, he took on the lemon ice cream, expecting a citrus zing – but was left disappointed.
‘How can you put lemon on the packaging and give it no twang? That is absolute filth. I’m not just overreacting for views, I am genuinely angry,’ he ranted.
The lemon flavour was given a one out of ten rating.
Russ’s review sparked a heated debate online, with some agreeing with his harsh critique and others defending the ice creams.
‘Wholeheartedly disagree on this one, mate. I had an ethereal experience with the peach one – so soft and light with the perfect amount of white chocolate,’ one person wrote.’
Another was relieved: ‘This makes me feel better about not being able to find them now.’
For many, the biggest issue was the price-to-size ratio.
‘The fact that you can buy a giant tub of ice cream for the same price is what gets me,’ one commenter pointed out.
However, others defended the product, arguing that Asian desserts often have a more subtle sweetness compared to Western ones.
‘What many people may not realise is that Asian desserts are traditionally less sweet than Western ones. If you’re accustomed to high sugar content, these might not be to your taste. Personally, I find them velvety and the perfect amount of sweetness!’ one explained.
Another user dismissed Russ’s review entirely.
‘Think you’ve missed the mark here. The mango is delicious. Peach isn’t bad either.’
Some fans of the ice cream praised not just the flavour but the craftsmanship behind it.
‘Gonna be honest, I’ve had all these many times – they’re absolutely delicious. And it’s really cool to see how much they look like a real mango!’
