Former New York Knicks star Charles Oakley’s wife, Angela Oakley, has revealed that the pair temporarily split up in the aftermath of her husband’s infamous 2017 Madison Square Garden altercation.
In February 2017, Oakley was ejected from the Knicks’ historic venue while attending a game and later arrested for his behavior. The team claims its former player ‘came to the game tonight and behaved in a highly inappropriate and completely abusive manner.’
Oakley denies he misbehaved, and only became aggressive once he was asked to leave, which he said was out of nowhere. The feud between he and Knicks owner James Dolan caused the NBA to interfere and Oakley to temporarily be banned from Madison Square Garden.
Angela and Charles wed only a year before the MSG incident, with her idea of renewing their wedding vows starting how the separation came to light.
‘I really, really, really want to do that,’ Angela said on Sunday’s episode of Bravo’s ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘. ‘2017 with Madison Square Garden, that was a very, very rough time. Charles was attending a game in New York. The owner does not like Charles and called security to come. [They] escorted him out.’
‘We were newly married,’ Angela continued. ‘He needed to heal, and I couldn’t heal him during this time. I was just like, “You know what? We’re going to try to work through this at a distance.” And we did live separately.

Angela opened up about the split-up and their reconciliation on television network Bravo
‘So us just recommitting to one another, I feel like is important at this moment, because everything that happened since we got married, it affected us.’
Charles has replied ‘we’ll see’ to renewing his vows with Angela, with the couple’s 10th anniversary falling next year.
‘Charles is holding our vow renewal over my head because he feels like we spent all this money on these houses,’ Angela said. ‘[He thinks], “Let’s handle this first, and then we can jump into something else.”‘
Later in 2017, Oakley filed a civil lawsuit over the incident, with court proceedings over the matter still ongoing in present day.
This is Oakley’s first season starring on the Bravo hit show, with other famous alumni such as singer Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes.
