Wetherspoon is ditching a number of classic menu items and replacing them with new gourmet burgers and Korean-style meals.
The popular pub chain announced it will be making changes to its menus on May 14, removing steaks, mixed grills and gammon.
Some diners have expressed their ‘disappointment’ over the change which will also see the end of the chain’s Steak Club deal.
The changes have been trialled in select JD Wetherspoon locations since January and now the rest of the pubs are following suit.
One pub-goer said they were ‘gutted’ by the news but not everyone was despairing.
‘Wetherspoons axing the steaks and the mixed grill. This is my 9/11. Feel like crying,’ one man said on X.
‘I’m sure they will regret this. It’s a clear mis-steak,’ a second joked and a third cried: ‘FOLKS, CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS’.
‘Sad but understandable. Business is business, if they don’t make a profit they have to go. Hopefully something can take their place,’ another added.

‘It’ll be new menu additions, they do it every few years same as all pubs. They get rid of stuff that isn’t selling well then replace it with new meal ideas,’ someone surmised.
A Wetherspoon’s spokesperson confirmed the menu change in a statement shared with FEMAIL: ‘Wetherspoon is making changes to its menu in May.’
‘This includes the removal of steaks, mixed grills and gammon (May 14).
‘Wetherspoon is confident that its menu provides a variety of choices and value-for-money meals.
‘We appreciate that some customers will be disappointed with the decision to remove steaks and grills.’
The scrapping of the items will mean Wetherspoons’ Steak Club will be a thing of the past, so punters will no longer be able to enjoy a cheap steak dinner at selected locations.
The menu changes however are not all negative as the statement continues: ‘A new range of gourmet burgers will be introduced; The Big Smoke, Buffalo Burger and Cheese Meltdown, on Wednesday, 14 May.’
‘There will also be a range of Korean-style chicken meals added.’

The Big Smoke burger will have pulled beef brisket and maple-cured bacon while the Buffalo is decked with fried buttermilk chicken, blue cheese sauce, and topped with a spicy wing.
The Cheese Meltdown has an oozing three-cheese sauce on either buttermilk chicken or a beef patty.
Steak isn’t the only thing that will be missing from Wetherspoon pubs nationwide.
In February, founder and chairman Tim Martin revealed why his pubs don’t allow dogs or play music.
The popular chain was founded in 1979 and has almost 800 outlets throughout the UK.
Now, the 69-year-old entrepreneur behind the company has shared the reasons behind his house rules.
Speaking to Sky News, Tim recalled a time when he didn’t have a ‘no-pooches’ policy in place.
‘At pub number one I had a dog,’ he explained. ‘A very nice Doberman Pinscher, but he was very frightened of other dogs and barked like hell whenever another dog came in.
‘It’s also a divisive issue. Some people like them in big pubs like ours, but with lots of children at half term like at the moment, it doesn’t work very well.’
Elsewhere Tim claimed having music in the pubs is similarly controversial because people have different music tastes.
He said: ‘I don’t hate music, I love it actually. But it’s quite divisive.
‘In the first pub we had music and I’d go to the loo and come back and The Strangers were playing at top volume so I thought in the end, with a lot of people you don’t need music.
‘You can choose your own when you go home, as I do myself.’
Meanwhile for years many have wondered where the name Wetherspoon actually came from and Tim revealed its wholesome origins.
He said: ‘It was a teacher who couldn’t control the class, a nice man, and in the first pub I couldn’t control the customers or the staff, no one did what I would say, so I sympathised with the teacher.’
