- Radacanu will be joined by Slovakian coach Vlado Platenik at the tournament
- Platenik coached New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, who beat Raducanu at Wimbledon
- Raducanu had not had a coach since Nick Cavaday stepped down in January
Emma Raducanu has appointed the seventh coach of her career as she is joined here in Indian Wells by Slovak Vlado Platenik, who will work with her on a trial basis.
The 49-year-old has previously coached Daria Kasatkina, Dominika Cibulkova, Veronika Kudermetova and Lulu Sun – the New Zealander who beat Raducanu at Wimbledon last year.
Raducanu has been without a coach since Nick Cavaday stepped down in January after a year in the job due to health issues.
The world No 55 has lost four of her five matches since then, a period which coincided with her traumatic stalking ordeal.
So this feels like the turning of a new page. It is also a departure from the Raducanu formula of working with trusted coaches she has known since childhood.
Her three previous stints with more established international coaches – Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursonov and Sebastian Sachs – have lasted only a few months apiece.

But this feels like the right way to go: an experienced coach to go along with her appointment of fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura in December.
The first outing of the Raducanu/Platenik axis will be on Thursday against Moyuka Uchijima of Japan.
