- Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies clashed
- Club will deal with incident ‘very strongly’
Two ‘very embarrassed’ Canberra Raiders NRL players have been disciplined over a altercation at their hotel in Las Vegas days out from the start of the 2025 season.
Second-rowers Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies came to blows after a hotel mix-up left one of them without a room on their first night.
It’s understood an inflatable baseball bat were involved in the scuffle in a hotel elevator and that security guards escorted them from the hotel, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Police were not called and the pair were later allowed to return to the hotel.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart confirmed an altercation took place three days ago and slammed the players’ behavior as unacceptable.
‘I have spoken to the players who are very embarrassed,’ he said.

‘The club will deal with this strongly.’
Both players are expected to front the media on Tuesday.
The NRL is aware of the incident.
The Raiders are among four clubs in Vegas for the Vegas opening round.
Both Young and Smithies are expected to be named in Raiders line-up when they take on the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday AEST.
The incident is the first off-field behavioural problem to beset the NRL in Vegas, after a largely incident-free visit to the city last year.
Clubs have given players free rein to enjoy Sin City, trusting them to behave and believing locking them in hotels is not the best preparation for games.
