Beau Ryan has revealed his most awkward celebrity interview.
The former NRL footy champ said he had an ‘uncomfortable’ sit-down with American actress Melissa McCarthy in Los Angeles when he was a presenter on The Footy Show.
He described McCarthy as ‘prickly’ and ‘difficult’.
Speaking to Triple M’s Breakfast with Beau, Tarsh and Woodsy, Beau recalled how he was pre-warned about the actress by Nova’s Ryan Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli, who were also on the same media tour.
‘You’d fly all the way over (to the United States) for four-minute interviews – there was a lot of pressure on it,’ he said.
‘I would usually [do my interview] after Fitzy & Wippa, and they’d give me a heads-up if anyone was a problem.

‘And I remember walking in and Fitzy gave me the eyes as in “she’s a problem.”‘
He admitted when he sat down for the interview with McCarthy, he probably looked a bit guarded.
‘I was a bit cagey,’ he said
‘But she was prickly, she was difficult… short answers, didn’t want to be there [and] gave me nothing and [it makes you feel] uncomfortable.
‘Which is disappointing [but] we’ve got to remember they’re actors, right? So we see them play these characters that are funny and likeable and picture them to have that persona.
‘So when they don’t you’re let down. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen her do some wonderful interviews and a lot of trainwrecks as well.’
McCarthy, who started her career in showbiz as a standup comedian, rose to fame after starring in the 2011 box office hit Bridesmaids.

She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role and received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination in 2018 for the drama Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Beau recently revealed the jaw-dropping amount he was offered to appear on the second season of Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
He described the sum as being ‘more [money] than I’ve ever seen’ during an interview with News.com.au earlier this month.
He claimed the offer, which was for the second season of the hit reality TV show, was worth more than $500,000 – ‘a lot more’ than that offered for later seasons.
Beau ultimately accepted a lower offer to appear on the eighth season of the show, which aired in 2022.
He also revealed he turned down the initial big money deal because he was contracted to Nine at the time.
Despite his efforts to claim the more than half-a-million dollar season two offer for his eventual appearance, Beau said his request was denied.
‘I said [to Ten], “Do you still have that offer from 2015 or 16?” and they said, “No, we don’t”,’ laughed the former NRL star.
In 2022, in what was I’m a Celebrity’s eighth season, Beau walked out on the 14th day in the jungle – which cost him $200,000.
