The one-time child actor explained the circumstances of the accident in a statement included in the social media posting.
‘The bike lane I was riding in was suddenly blocked with cones, and I was forced to choose between a van and a pylon,’ Pintauro said. ‘The pylons hurt!! Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm.’
Pintauro said that while he felt ‘a whole lot better’ on the Friday following the crash, he began ‘having these weird chest pains’ on Saturday, November 30.
Pintauro said that while it initially felt as if his felt like his ‘hiatal hernia was acting up,’ he quickly realized the severity of the situation.
‘Before long, the pain was so significant all across my chest and my stomach muscles and my shoulder muscles that I could barely breath,’ Pintauro said. ‘It was the worst moment of my life.’
Pintauro said his husband Wil Tabares transported him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a tear in his stomach lining that led to a bloodstream infection.
The actor said doctors told him that ‘air and stomach acid … were escaping into [his] abdomen’ – necessitating an emergency surgery.
Surgery ‘went well, and now that it’s fixed, the pain is pretty much gone away, although I’m very sore,’ Pintauro said at the time.

Pintauro explained the aftercare medical professionals initiated in the wake of the procedure.
‘They just took the intubation tube out, but I have to leave another tube in my stomach for three days to keep removing the acids so as to not upset the stitches and repair they did,’ Pintauro said. ‘Which also means that I won’t be eating or drinking anything for the next three days.
‘They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong.’
Pintauro said on the site on December 19 that he subsequently ‘had the stitches and the tube removed,’ adding, ‘I’m officially free of anything constricting, which feels great.’
