Detroit Pistons star Jaden Ivey will likely sit out the remainder of the NBA season after sustaining a broken fibula on his left leg, per ESPN.
During Wednesday’s game between the Pistons and the Orlando Magic, Ivey was stretchered out of the court after a brutal collision with Cole Anthony in the fourth quarter.
After the ball was cleared on a failed rebound attempt from both teams, Ivey and Anthony dove in to recover the loose rock. As they both went in face first, Ivey was launched forward and fell on his lower back while the Magic regained position.
The officials blew the whistle seconds before Ivey began screaming in pain after the play.
An alternate angle showed how Anthony threw his hip and body weight onto Ivey’s left leg, causing it to bend awkwardly. Their momentum took Ivey’s feet airborne before falling onto the hardwood.
The Purdue product stayed down momentarily as players and staff members from both teams circled him. Anthony was also seen in tears as teammates consoled both players.

As Ivey got carried into the locker room, fans escorted him with applause and chants of ‘Ivey’.
On Thursday, Shams Charania reported that the third-year star sustained the injury and is unlikely to return this season.
Before his unfortunate exit, Ivey enjoyed a 22-point and four-rebound performance during a brilliant season in his young career. Ivey averaged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and four assists per game.
The Pistons went on to win the game, 105-96, to improve to a 15-18 record.
After the game, Magic coach Jamahl Mosley shared his thoughts and urged fans to pray for Ivey’s recovery.
‘Pray for the young man,’ Mosley said. ‘It was heartbreaking to see that happen. You’re out there competing as best as you can and you never wanna see that happen to anyone.’
‘Our thoughts and our prayers are with him. Praying [that] it’s not as bad as it looked. I pray for a speedy recovery whatever the case may be.’
Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff also praised Ivey’s impact on the team while talking about his heartbreaking injury.
‘It’s tough on all of us,’ Bickerstaff said postgame. ‘No better teammate and person than JI. No one who cares more about this thing than him. It’s tough to see.’
When asked about getting the job done despite seeing one of their teammates leave in a stretcher, Bickerstaff said ‘I give our guys credit for doing it.’
‘At the heart of this team, what we’ve tried to preach all year since we’ve been here is the togetherness. If one guy goes down, you don’t wanna let that guy down. So everybody else has to step up.’
