Beyoncé managed a ratings triumph at her NFL Christmas halftime performance, which was held at NRG Stadium in her Houston hometown.
Netflix revealed in a press release Thursday that over 27M Americans tuned in live to watch the 43-year-old pop diva’s 15-minute, eight-song medley – according to Nielsen.
The performance comes at the end of a banner year for Beyoncé, who released her debut country album Cowboy Carter in March to a burst of acclaim from her fans.
At the time, she remarked that the album ‘was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t.’
Although she did not name the event in question, her admirers widely speculated she was referring to her performance at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards.
That awards show, where Beyoncé sang her country song Daddy Lessons with the Dixie Chicks, earned 12.8 million viewers, according to Deadline – less than half the audience Beyoncé had for her Christmas Day performance this week.

Beyonce was met with criticism over her CMA Awards performance with the Dixie Chicks, who rebranded as the Chicks in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter riots.
When she played the awards show in 2016, some viewers slammed the ceremony for including her because she was not known as a country artist, and because of her support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Country Music Association had to deny accusations they kept Beyoncé out of the show’s promotional material because of the blowback.
Meanwhile the group then known as the Dixie Chicks responded to the backlash by tweeting a studio version of their collaboration with Beyoncé, with the caption: ‘If we all turn this up really loud, together we can drown out the hate.’
In 2020, Chicks frontwoman Natalie Maines made bombshell allegations about the way that her group and Beyoncé were received at the CMA Awards.
‘They treated us very weird backstage,’ she told the New York Times, before denouncing the online ‘disrespect’ towards Beyoncé as ‘disgusting.’
When she released her debut country album this month, Beyonce issued an Instagram statement widely regarded as being targeted to the CMA Awards.
‘This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t,’ she wrote on her Instagram page.
Beyonce has said her new country album Cowboy Carter ‘was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t’
‘But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.’
Cowboy Carter was snubbed at this year’s CMA Awards, where Beyoncé failed to earn a single nomination, to the fury of her ‘BeyHive.’

The 55-year-old Roc Nation founder (born Shawn Carter) is in the midst of a legal war against attorney Tony Buzbee, whose Alabama client accused him of raping her, at age 13, in 2000 alongside Diddy in a civil lawsuit.
In a new filing Thursday, New York judge Analisa Torres scolded Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro for being ‘combative’ and ‘inflammatory’ for attempting to ‘fast-track’ the judicial process, and she ruled Jane Doe can ‘remain anonymous for this stage of the litigation.’
‘We are aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s really strong response to that,’ the 65-year-old NFL commissioner defended at a December 11th press conference.
‘We know, obviously, that litigation is happening. But from our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.’

Beyoncé had more than one Christmas surprise for her devoted Beyhive, posting a mysterious 14-second teaser on Wednesday, which she cryptically captioned: ‘Look at that horse.’

This, after Knowles-Carter – who gets 55M monthly listeners on Spotify – shockingly received zero nominations at the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards.
And while country music industry elites went out of their way to snub her, the Oscar-nominated songwriter’s Cowboy Carter became her eighth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and the first album by a black woman to top the Top Country Albums chart.
Beyoncé’s first foray into the genre also scored her No. 1 records in the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
