Footy fans have hit out at both Essendon and Richmond for publishing woke Christmas messages on social media.
Many fans, including one former NBA star, have hit out at the statements issued by both clubs, in which Richmond and Essendon refused to use the term ‘Merry Christmas‘.
Richmond took to X to publish a photoshopped image of a Christmas tree ball ball that had an image of the club’s Punt Road training ground in front of the MCG photoshopped into it.
The club added a caption alongside the X post, writing: ‘Wishing everyone a safe and happy time.’
Essendon similarly published an image of two players inside a snowglobe, which had the message: ‘Dear Bomber army, happy holidays.’
But some fans were left questioning what was wrong with writing ‘Happy Christmas’.

McPherson claimed the 24-year-old is ‘progressing really well’ and is ‘gradually building towards full training by the end of January or early February.’
