Meghan Markle has some unique styling tips for New Year’s Eve – and they’ve been revealed in an unearthed blog post from over 10 years ago.
Before she was known as the Duchess of Sussex, Markle, 43, ran a successful lifestyle blog called The Tig, which offered fashion advice, recipes, wellness tips, and city guides to her readers.
However, the blog by the former Suits actress has now been taken down, save for a few websites that have kept her posts alive in the archives.
About a decade ago, to get in the holiday spirit, Markle created a guide to New Year’s Eve dressing back in 2014, and it turns out that some of her tips can still be applied today.
At the time, she urged her readers to dress differently than just the typical ‘sequined mini dress’ that’s often donned on the big night.
And the future royal promised that the tips will leave you looking ‘smokin’ in the blog post.
‘Every year, we all look forward to counting down as the ball drops, champagne glass in hand – all while looking impeccably dressed,’ she wrote at the time.
‘But the problem year after year is figuring out exactly how to switch up your style routine as the 31st approaches, because wearing a sequined mini dress and heavy smoky eyes just isn’t going to continue to cut it,’ the post continued.

‘But this year, there’s no need to hem and haw for an entire week before New Year’s Eve – just follow The TIG’s simple guidelines and the only thing you’ll have to worry about come the New Year is who exactly to kiss because you’ll look smokin’. Happy New Year.’
Her first styling suggestion was to throw on a jumpsuit – which remains timeless, and could still be considered trendy today.
Markle noted that ‘there’s rarely a good occasion to try your hand at the one-piece,’ but New Year’s Eve ‘is your best bet since it’s sexy, but not too provocative.’
She also shared that if you’re tall, you’re in ‘luck,’ as you can wear some of the harder-to-pull off jumpsuit looks, like bright colors.
‘If you’re smaller, opt for a sleeveless, more basic version since it’ll draw the eyes towards your legs, which actually look longer in a jumpsuit,’ she suggested.
The former actress’ next outfitting tip was to throw a motorcycle-style jacket over your maxi dress, explaining that it can help you ‘stand out in a crowd.’
‘This is a great way to still look chic in colder weather,’ she added. ‘If it’s really cold, throw on a pair of fleece-lined tights that won’t show through your chiffon skirt.’
But if you’re not exactly feeling a long skirt, you could also opt for a ‘beaded mini,’ Markle typed, claiming that it was ‘chicer’ than a metallic option.
Markle wed Prince Harry in May 2018, and the two have since moved to Montecito, California
Markle recommended adding a pop of red to your New Year’s attire and wearing sequins in an ‘unexpected way’
‘Try finding a multi-colored version to have the same stand out effect, but pair with neutrals on the top (like a white chiffon blouse) and bottom (like black lace-up heels),’ she suggested.
For her fourth tip on the list, the Prince Harry’s wife proposed that readers could ‘wear sequins in an unexpected way.’
‘Try a long-sleeved top or, even better, a full-on sequined maxi dress. It’s New Years, so it’s time to go big or go home!’ she shared.
And, last but not least, Markle recommended adding a pop of red to your New Year’s attire.
However, there are some steps you’ll have to take in order to make your ‘fit stand apart from the one you wore on Christmas.
‘Traditionally, we all stick with black or white while celebrating the New Year, but that’s bo-ring,’ she declared at the time.
‘Red is the perfect bold hue because it’s definitely festive, but doesn’t feel like you’re just recycling your outfit from Christmas (if you choose the right pieces),’ her post continued.
‘You’ll definitely want to pick something that feels dressed up—a dress with a hint of lace or a detailed skirt with slits all fit the bill.’
