Nick Lachey reflected on his marriage to Jessica Simpson during season three of The Ultimatum, which Netflix released on Wednesday.
The former boy band star, 51, hosts the reality TV show with his wife Vanessa Lachey, 44. However, on a new episode of the show, he looked back at his first marriage to the Take My Breath Away hitmaker, 44.
Nick and Jessica began dating after meeting at the Hollywood Christmas Parade in 1998. They married in 2002 and divorced in 2005.
‘I, too, was previously married, divorced, so I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that,’ Nick — who also took a dig at his first marriage in 2022 — shared, as per E! News.
Nick’s fears were eventually quelled when he met and married Vanessa in 2011.
‘What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman.’

‘Don’t let your past define your future,’ Nick — who also dated Kristin Cavallari following his divorce from Jessica — added.
The pair share sons Camden, 12, and Phoenix, seven, and daughter Brooklyn, nine.
Meanwhile Jessica has been married to former NFL star Eric Johnson since 2014.
They share daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, five, and son Ace, 11.
Nick has previously taken a small dig at his first marriage.
On an episode of Love Is Blind season three in 2022 he said that marriage ‘is always better the second time.’
Nick was seated beside Vanessa during the exchange, which quickly sparked outrage online from devout fans of Love Is Blind.
Many found the remark ‘disrespectful’ and felt as though bringing Jessica into the equation was an unnecessary move.
‘Say what you will about love is blind season 3 but nick lachey did not have to bring jessica simpson into this,’ penned one annoyed Twitter user.

Fans were given a front row seat to the former ‘It’ couple’s married life in the hit MTV reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which ran for three seasons on MTV; the pair seen in 2003
One fan did not hold back as they called Nick ‘sooo f***ing weird’ for shading his short-lived marriage with Jessica.
Meanwhile Jessica appeared to shade Nick in a 2023 interview with Bustle.
After being told how fans of their former MTV reality show, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, now see Nick as the villain, Jessica simply said of their former perception of him as a stand-up husband, ‘It’s amazing what publicity can do.’
Nick and Jessica famously wed back in 2002 after nearly three years of dating.
They did not sign a prenuptial agreement because Jessica believed the marriage was ‘never gonna end.’
Fans were given a front row seat to the former ‘It’ couple’s married life in the hit MTV reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
The show ran for three seasons on MTV and heavily played up Jessica’s ‘dumb blonde’ persona as she navigated the early years of marriage with Nick.
One of the show’s most memorable moments was Jessica’s ‘Chicken Of The Sea’ conundrum, where she struggled to understand whether or not the canned good contained chicken or fish.
Nick’s fears about marriage were eventually quelled when he met and married Vanessa in 2011

Despite how she was portrayed, Jessica was one of Hollywood’s top talents and she remains a highly-successful business woman.
The final season of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica aired in March 2005.
Nine months later, Jessica would file for divorce from Nick after less than four years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in 2006.
In her memoir Open Book, which was released in 2020, Jessica spoke candidly about her ex-husband and how she believed their MTV show did not play a role in their split.
‘I don’t believe that the show is what tore our marriage apart,’ she writes. ‘Nick and I were very great at being together publicly and on-camera.’
‘We were best at our relationship when we were singing together. I felt like we were at home in that place,’ explained the singer.
‘But as far as doing the reality show, we just kind of had fun with it until the end—until we started having marital problems.’
She also confessed that she was heartbroken over Nick moving on with Vanessa so quickly after their divorce.

‘So, Nick, you’re with another already? Seems that you forgot the love you spoke to me… I’m saddened beyond belief. Alone in the dark, with no one to call my own,’ she pens in Open Book.
In late 2021 during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Nick revealed that he had not read Jessica’s memoir and had no plans to.
‘I obviously knew the book was coming out, but I lived the book. You know what I mean,’ he told host Cohen.
‘I know what the truth is so I don’t need to read it, or read someone’s version of it in a story that I know, that I lived it. No, I never read it.’
