Women on social media are coming to the horrifying realisation that a not insignificant portion of the male population frequently urinate in bottles and jars rather than use a toilet.
Tales of such disgusting discoveries are plentiful on TikTok and Instagram with wives, girlfriends, sisters and mothers unearthing collections in bedrooms and branding their male loved ones ‘pretty f****** disgusting’.
While it’s easy to dismiss the habit as sheer laziness, experts say it can be a sign of serious health conditions.
One video that recently attracted viral attention on Instagram, and has been viewed nearly 400,000 times, featured one woman who discovered her 38-year-old boyfriend had been urinating in a large jar at home.
Her experience has been echoed by dozens of threads on Reddit, in which thousands of women add their comments to tell of uncovering similar collections.

‘You’re disgusting,’ she is heard saying as he holds up a bottle he intends to urinate into.
He then defends himself by stating: ‘Am I disgusting? Or am I using what I have to my advantage?’
John, speaking to his wife then adds: ‘If you could you would.’
A slew of users commented to confirm that, based on their experience, men do indeed urinate into bottles on road trips.
One tale the recently attracted a lot of social media attention is that of a young woman who called in to speak on the popular comedy podcast, Therapy Gecko.
The clip of the conversation has attracted around 400,000 views on Instagram.
In it, the woman detailed how she discovered her 38-year-old boyfriend had been urinating into a 36 liquid once (about 1L) mason jar in their apartment.
Confronting him, she said he immediately became defensive.
‘I grabbed the p*** jar and came downstairs and just dropped it in front of him and I was like “This is f****** disgusting”,’ she said.
‘He grabbed it from me and said “We are never talking about this again”,’
‘He washed it out and then he put it in the dishwasher and now I don’t know which one it is.’
Asked by podcast host Lyle Drescher how many more urine containers would she need to discover before leaving him, she replied ‘one’.
‘I couldn’t live with someone that p**** in jars,’
She then added: ‘But apparently I do.’

Meanwhile, one woman writing on Reddit detailed how she went to her date’s house and discovered two bottles ‘filled to the brim’ by his desk, one of which was open.

Responding to one such account a woman said: ‘Your husband is disgusting. I would quite literally leave a man over this. He isn’t gonna change, he will just get better at hiding it from you.’
Others replied that there were serious concerns men who undertake the habit aren’t washing their hands properly and then going around touching objects in the house.
Some accounts detailed discovering their brothers or sons, some of whom have autism, hoarding such collections in their rooms.
One clip shared on TikTok shows a Massachusetts college student’s clean-up video of a filthy basement littered with dozens of bottles filled with urine that her sister’s boyfriend had used.
Men themselves have also revealed some of the reasons why they opt for such a disgusting course of action.
British boxer Anthony Yarde has previously spoken about how his battle with depression left him wanting to cage himself in his room, and as a result he started urinating in bottles.
‘I was peeing in plastic bottles, there were like 15 plastic bottles in my room because I didn’t want to leave,’ he said on a clip on YouTube.
Another man, Kevin Leonardo, told his 1million followers on TikTok he used to urinate in bottles out of a childhood fear of the supernatural and not wanting to go to the bathroom in the dark.
‘My room would have bottles and bottles of just like p***,’ he said.
‘This is because when I was in high school like my friends and I would be like “Oh My God The Witching Hour” between 12am to like 4am.’
While urinating in rooms can be a sign of depression or obsessive compulsive disorder, there can be other reasons.
Principal among these is sheer laziness, with some men not wanting to leave playing video games to take a bathroom break.
The other can be drug testing. As part of some jobs or drug rehabilitation programmes, men can be required to submit urine tests for analysis to see if they have been taking any illicit substances.
So, by keeping a supply of ‘clean’ urine to hand they can potentially fool the test if they are continuing to take drugs occasionally.
Another reason men have cited is living in shared accommodation with one bathroom and having no alternative when it’s occupied.
Keeping urine in bottle and jars isn’t recommended as it is unhygienic.
Some people are known to even drink their own, or even others’ urine, for the supposed benefits though this isn’t recommended by medics.
