Nothing screams Christmas like the arrival of festive fare in the supermarkets but Aldi is going even further to ensure as many people as possible sample its top treats in the run-up to the holiday season.
The discount supermarket chain is once again opening its Bottomless Pigs in Blankets Restaurant in London, offering guests the chance to try up to seven varieties of its festive bestseller and enjoy a welcome drink for just £5 – with proceeds going to charities network Neighbourly.
Championing pigs in blankets – small sausages wrapped in bacon, for the uninitiated – the restaurant will re-open its doors on Bethnal Green Road in east London on November 29-30.
The news comes as watchdog Which? named Aldi the ‘Best Place to Buy Pigs in Blankets’ this Christmas, scoring the supermarket 79 out of 100.
Competitors Tesco and Sainsbury’s scored, respectively, 67 out of 100 and 70 out of 100.
Aldi’s restaurant served up 10,000 pigs in blankets to hundreds of visitors last year and, with research suggesting Londoners will enjoy 13.7 pigs in blankets each this Christmas, its Shoreditch site is likely to be oversubscribed.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: ‘Customers went wild for our Pigs in Blankets Restaurant last year, so we knew we had to bring it back.
‘The humble pig in blanket is the King of the Christmas dinner spread – the irresistible combination of savoury sausage and crispy bacon creates a blend of flavours and textures that is hard to resist.’
