Eva Longoria has revealed the surprising secrets behind her happy marriage to José Bastón, with the Desperate Housewives star admitting that she doesn’t think of her husband as a ‘best friend’.
The 49-year-old and the Mexican businessman first began dating in 2013, before going on to tie the knot three years later, and the actress noted that something that has always helped their relationship is the fact they ‘don’t compete for attention’.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, the Only Murders In The Building star gushed: ‘He makes me laugh, and he’s a really good partner, and he supports me in everything I do.
‘I support him in everything he does. We don’t compete for attention or spotlight.’
Naturally, the L’Oréal Paris spokesperson’s position in the industry often means that she has to actively remain in the spotlight.
However, her husband shies away from the limelight – to the point where he actually begged the actress to keep him out of her social media posts.

Eva continued: ‘He loves for me to be on the red carpet. It’s one place he hates and he hates it.
‘He hates Instagram. He’s like, “please don’t put me on your Instagram.” That’s why he’s never on my social media. Once a while I try to slip him in there.’
The actress admitted that José’s aversion to the spotlight has been one of the reasons why he is a great partner as she continued: ‘It’s actually refreshing to be with somebody who doesn’t need that constant validation of like “remind people we’re together”, “remind people, I need to be on a red carpet”. He’s just a really kind partner.’
When asked if her husband was like a best friend, the Sylvie’s Love star explained: ‘No, I have best friends. He doesn’t need to occupy that role. It’s a different relationship.
‘My best friends are my best friends, and I go to them for things. And my husband is my partner. He’s there for a different function, and he really excels in that role in my life.’
The happy couple, who share six-year-old son Santiago, recently made the decision to relocate to Spain, which DailyMail.com exclusively revealed in April.
Eva has Spanish citizenship and, in 2022, was given the honorary title ‘Dame’ due to her family roots tracing back to the Spanish city of Oviedo, where her ancestors are from.
The Texas born actress, who has spent her ‘whole adult life’ in California, recently explained to Marie Claire magazine that she feels the American ‘chapter in my life is done now’ and no longer wants to live in Los Angeles, alleging the city has been ‘changing’.

The star has been living abroad while she works on her CNN miniseries Searching for Spain – a follow up to last year’s Searching for Mexico.
The Devious Maid producer, who campaigned hard for Kamala Harris to win the presidential election, added that she fears that if Donald Trump ‘keeps his promises’ the US will be a ‘scary place’.
‘I get to escape and go somewhere,’ the Flamin’ Hot director explained. ‘Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.’
She also confirmed that her family are happily splitting their time between Mexico and Spain because she often ends up in South America or other European destinations for work, meaning she does not frequently return to Los Angeles.
‘I had my whole adult life here,’ Eva said of her former home. ‘But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge.
‘Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s**t on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.’

Longoria, who recently appeared in the latest season of Only Murders in the Building and the Apple TV+ series Land of Women, admitted she is ‘privileged’ to have the opportunity to live abroad.
Eva moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s, landing her first first TV gig on Beverly Hills, 90210, before going on to appear on soap operas like General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.
Four years later, she was cast as Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives, which made her a household name across the country.
Elsewhere, Eva serves as president of The Global Gift Foundation – a non-profit that aims to create a positive impact on the lives of children, women and families who are in need.
It was founded by María, a Spanish actress, businesswoman and philanthropist, in 2013.
According to its website, the mission of her foundation is to ‘help Latinas build better futures for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship.’
