As the nights draw in, many of us will be looking forward to spending cosy evenings at home.
But what exactly is the best way to make the most of a plan-free night?

Researchers from haircare brand Timotei have discovered the formula for a perfect winter night in.
A poll of 2,000 people shows the ideal time to get home for a night in is 5:30pm.
That gives you just over an hour until you should be settled down on the sofa by 6:42pm.
And what would a night in be without a luxurious soak?
According to the researchers, the perfect shower or bath routine lasts an average of 19 minutes, while changing into comfortable clothes, putting on slippers and making a drink are among the first things you should do before settling down.

Since the clocks have gone back, 22 per cent said they want to stay in more now and 35 per cent said they feel more in need of self-care.
When asked their top reasons for staying in, 66 per cent feel it’s more comfortable at home, 53 per cent find it more ‘peaceful’ than going out, and 48 per cent enjoy taking the opportunity to fully unwind.
While trying to relax at home, 55 per cent said they desperately want to avoid uninvited visitors.
And while 45 per cent would choose to have their perfect night in with family, 24 per cent said they would opt to be home alone and 9 per cent said they just want to be with their pets.
The poll also revealed that candles and relaxing music are a must-have for nearly a third of people.
Favourite night-in activities also include reading a good book, watching a classic film, ordering a takeaway or baking something indulgent.
Despite Brits saying they prefer a night in compared to a night out, the study revealed that we only spend an average of six nights at home per month.
The findings come as Timotei have launched a new podcast series – ‘A Gentle Start: The Showercast’ – which features the likes of Laura Whitmore and Martine McCutcheon reflecting on how they practice ‘gentle living’.
Cleo Hector, marketing manager from Timotei, said: ‘As we move from summer into the chillier months, it seems many brits are keen to slow down and be gentler to themselves.’
